The event was opened by the Country Manager of Saica Pack Iberia, Julián Montal. Afterwards, the Commercial and Marketing Director, Miguel Ángel Martínez, intervened, claiming that for him this forum is an opportunity to go into as much depth as possible in terms of how the company can develop “a joint work” with its customers in order to “help them reach the goal of giving added value to their products by means of solutions in their entire production chain”.

Equally, he highlighted that at Saica “we strongly believe in the possibility of offering the concept of global packaging and leading solutions of sustainable, innovative packaging that is personalised to each of our customers, with the aim of adapting ourselves to an ever changing society; all of this through research and innovation strategies and an ‘end to end’ offer of services”.

Meanwhile, stand-out leaders in various sectors participated and they detailed how the Saica Group contributes to improving their value chain processes. In this way, Paul Earnshaw, Packaging Manager of the supermarket chain TESCO PLC, and Julian Watt, Development Engineer of Saica Pack UK, explained the challenges that retailers face when it comes to innovation.

The conference was also added to by the Managing Director of the Buying Department at Navigator, José Antonio Rodrigues, under the title “Growing Together”.

In the second section of the meeting, the Director of Pingo Doce, Catarina Laureano, highlighted the importance of packaging for this Portuguese supermarket chain.

Likewise, the Director of the French food cooperative Agrial, David Delande, talked about the process of buying decisions and TCO* methodology regarding the calculation of direct and indirect costs, as well as the benefits associated with the acquisition of equipment or programmes. Similarly, the lecturer from the IESE Business School, Pablo Foncillas, spoke about the perspective towards 2015 in the retail sector.

To end this section of presentations, the Managing Director of the Saica Group summarised the improvements that have been introduced by the company through “new technological applications and the implementation of new, innovative processes with the aim of developing exclusive solutions for our clients”. By these means, he defended that the company “consolidates its diversification on the brown and white paper market and it maintains its strategic commitment to the promotion of sustainable solutions through the use of waste generated in the proximity as a raw material, giving it a new life”.

The climax of the day came at the drinks reception, in which the speakers and participants were able to exchange opinions and talk in a relaxed way.
