Saica Group receives the Lean & Green Star Award

•  The European award recognises companies that achieve at least a 20% reduction in the greenhouse gas emissions released in their logistics chain.

•  Saica Group has reduced its CO2 emissions in the last 5 years by more than 22.000 tons

Saica Goup, one of the leading companies in the manufacture of recycled paper for corrugated cardboard, has been awarded with the Lean & Green star. This award, that is part of the European Lean & Green initiative, is coordinated in Spain by the Association of Manufacturers and Distributors, AECOC. The award recognises companies that reduce the CO2 emissions of their supply chains by at least 20%.

The reduction of the CO2 emissions has been achieved by implementing an ambitious action plan in the period 2015-2019. This plan included measures such as improved transport planning, the reduction of the average distance, the use of more efficient vehicles and a commitment to sustainable means of transport. In addition, important investments have been made to promote energy efficiency and digitalisation, such as the creation of the automatic warehouse at El Burgo de Ebro plant. 

These actions have guaranteed the desired reduction of emissions by more than 22,000 tons, an achievement that has been audited by EY (Ernst & Young).

Ramón Alejandro, President of the Saica Group, has claimed that the award is “the recognition of the immense work that our employees, suppliers and clients carry out every day to move forwards in the reduction of our environmental impact". In addition, he wanted to emphasise that this award represents an impulse to continue evolving towards a more efficient and environmentally friendly business model. "At Saica we defend sustainability as a key and transversal factor in all our activities. This is the only way to continue progressing and building an efficient, innovative and long-lasting industry together" stated Ramón Alejandro.

The reduction of greenhouse gases is one of the many actions of the company's ongoing commitment to sustainability.  The commitment to achieve a cleaner economic models is embodied in three of the company's objectives: Decarbonisation, Recyclability of its products and Zero waste to landfill.
