Saica Group Breaks Ground on Second U.S. Corrugated Plant, Investing More than $110 Million

Saica Group’s executives broke ground to kick off construction of its second U.S. corrugated plant located in Anderson, Indiana

The plant is scheduled to open in Q4 2026.

With this new project, Saica Group will create more than 100 new jobs in the State of Indiana once the plant is operating at full capacity.

With an investment of more than $110 million, Saica Group, one of the largest and most advanced European players in the development and production of recycled paper for corrugated packaging, has begun to build its second Saica Pack plant in the U.S., a new corrugated manufacturing facility in Anderson, Indiana, this month. Saica Pack is the Saica Group’s division dedicated to producing high-performance corrugated packaging solutions.

At a groundbreaking ceremony held this Tuesday, the company officially celebrated the construction on its new state-of-the-art factory. Among the distinguished attendees were former State Senator Tim Lanane, representing the Mayor of Anderson; David J. Adams, Indiana Secretary of Commerce; and Rob Sparks, Executive Director of the Madison County Economic Development Corporation, among other regional representatives. Representatives from Saica, construction partners Miller Valentine Construction, CSX, and FM Global, as well as other key stakeholders and community leaders, were also present at the ceremony.

Susana Alejandro, President and CEO of Saica Group, said: “Saica is committed to stability and long-term growth in the U.S. This investment is proof that we are moving forward with our plans in the U.S. as we are convinced that we can provide products that will differentiate us in a crowded market. It reflects our deep commitment to delivering exceptional service, as we believe our knowledge and experience in the production of lighter-weight containerboard and corrugated packaging will bring high-performance packaging to the U.S. market while becoming more efficient in the use of materials.”

Representing Anderson City Mayor Thomas Broderick, Jr., former State Senator Tim Lanane stated, “We are excited to welcome Saica to this area. We look forward to working with their team as they become integrated into our community. Saica will be a great asset to Anderson’s advanced manufacturing network.”

Factory operations are expected to begin in Q4 2026 with recruiting for management and technical positions beginning later this year. Within the first two years of operations, they anticipate creating more than 50 full-time jobs, potentially reaching over 100 full-time jobs once the plant is running at full capacity.

Designed with future growth in mind, the almost 350,000-square-foot facility will produce more than 1,200,000 MSF of corrugated packaging. Shipping of paper rolls will be reduced to the plant being connected to a railroad line. This site will also serve as a backup plant for Saica Pack in Hamilton, Ohio, to reinforce supply chain security. The site will include manufacturing, converting and production areas, along with a warehouse and office space. Being in Anderson, Saica expands its geographic reach in the Midwest, creating a stronger service platform for the future.

Based on the company’s plans to create more than 100 new jobs by the end of 2030, the IEDC committed an investment in Saica Group of up to $2 million in incentive-based tax credits and up to $150,000 in training grants. The IEDC also offered up to $300,000 in Industrial Development Grant Fund incentives to support infrastructure improvements surrounding the new site. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning the company is eligible to claim incentives once Hoosiers are hired.

This investment follows a previous announcement on Saica´s growth plans, where the company is planning to invest around $800 million in the U.S. market over the next several years. Saica Group coming to Anderson is a win-win for the company and the community. Anderson will benefit greatly from the company’s more than $110 million capital investment and the creation of more than 100 well-paid jobs, while Saica will benefit from Anderson’s workforce, developable greenfield acreage and rail connectivity.
