The Saica Natur Audenshaw Production Team wins the inaugural Health and Safety Awards

The award, a cheque for 5,000 euros to be donated to an NGO, recognises best practice in occupational health and safety.

The jury also recognised the work of employees of Saica Natur Betanzos, Saica Paper Partington, Saica Pack Wigan and Saica Flex Deeside with commendation prizes.

The Production team of Saica Natur Audenshaw (United Kingdom) has won the first Saica Group Health and Safety Award, which was presented this Friday at the Saica Group's corporate headquarters in Zaragoza and which recognises best practice in health and safety within the company. Coinciding with the celebration of World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the jury also praised the work of employees of Saica Natur Betanzos (Spain) and Saica Paper Partington, Saica Pack Wigan and Saica Flex Deeside, plants located in the United Kingdom, with respective commendation prizes.

The winning team, composed of Iain Atherton, Mark Lowe and Cristian Ioachim and led by Lee Warhurst, were mentioned by the jury for their continuous promotion of safe work practices, their constant search for innovative solutions, as well as their exemplary behaviour and attitude in promoting health and safety. The group's chairman, Ramón Alejandro, gave them a cheque for 5,000 euros, which, in accordance with the terms of the award, the winners decided to donate to The Nature Conservancy.


The commendations, granted with cheques for 2,500 euros, have been given to:

- The production team of Saica Natur Betanzos, led by Manuel Díaz, for the implementation of ergonomic risk reduction programmes and the improvement of pedestrian-vehicle segregation in their work centre. The cheque was presented by Guillermo Vallés, general manager of Saica Natur, and the donation goes to Save The Children.

- The paper machine 11 fire response improvement analysis team in Saica Paper Partington, comprising Darren Hoyle, Darren Johnston and Karen Gilbert.

The cheque was presented by Enrique de Yraolagoitia, CEO of the Saica Group and the donation is also for Save The Children.

- Saica Pack Wigan's Cuatro Project team, with special mention to Anthony Miller, whose involvement has helped reduce the risk of accidents in the implementation of the Cuatro Project. The cheque was presented by Pascal Giraud, managing director of Saica Pack and the donation also goes to Save The Children.

- Steve Rose, from Saica Flex Deeside, for identifying risks and finding solutions that improve safety. The cheque was presented by Saica Flex's general manager, Miguel Ángel Dora, and the donation is for the World Wildlife Fund.

The event was closed by Ramón Alejandro, who congratulated the winners and reminded them that health and safety at work are "a priority for the group". The president stressed that these awards are an example and an incentive for the entire company, and encouraged participation in the next edition of the Saica Group's Health and Safety Awards.
