Warrenpoint, 14 Mar 2024
On February 22nd, Saica Pack Warrenpoint had the pleasure of supporting St Mary’s Year 14 students with a field day for their Business A-Level. The student’s assignments were to understand how the theory and legislation of Health and Safety impacts the workplace.
During the day, different activities were carried out. The students where shown a presentation which outlined the history of the Warrenpoint site. There was also an interactive question and answer session where each student asked a health and safety specific question to Vincent Gormley, Health and Safety Manager. He provided great insight and highlighted that “the students were thoroughly engaged throughout their day and with the host of informative questions they posed, they no doubt gained valuable insights into Health and Safety and its application in real job positions”.
To round of the day, the visitors were taken on a site tour of the Warrenpoint plant facilitated by employees: Ronan Turley, Eamon McCormack and Vincent Gormely. One of the students affirmed that the visit to Saica was very helpful and beneficial for their coursework. As well as this, it was an educational trip where they were able to learn more into depth about health and safety.
Adam Twohig, teacher at St Mary commented: “The visit allowed my students the opportunity to see the content they are studying in the classroom come to life in a dynamic business environment. Communication prior to the visit was first class and highlighted to me the importance Saica placed on being able to assist a local school. Student enthusiasm for the unit, which is very theory heavy, has dramatically increased following our visit, as they now have real life experience of how the theory looks in the world of work of a market leader. This is testament to the effort and hospitality shown to us by all at Saica”.
