SAICA Paper is developing Europe’s latest and one of the world’s most advanced Recycled Paper Mills in the UK, at Partington near Manchester. The £290 million development will create up to 200 new jobs directly and indirectly at the plant when it is established and many more during the construction period. The mill is expected to be operational by 2012.
Site clearance works at the Partington Wharfside site were started in 2009 with construction of the paper mill expected to commence in April 2010.
When fully operational, approximately 400,000 tonnes a year of 100% recycled paper (containerboard) will be produced at Partington Mill to be used in the manufacture of recycled corrugated boxes – enough paper to cover the distance between Partington and London (196 miles) every 3.5 hours.
The mill will utilise state-of-the-art technologies, including a dedicated Combined Heat and Power (CHP) station to generate clean energy as well as an advanced effluent treatment plant. SAICA’s Paper Machine 11 will hugely contribute to the UK environment by recycling in the UK thousands of tons of UK recovered paper that are currently exported to far away countries.
